“I carry deep respect and love for my late father, shaped by his years of service in the Army. His discipline, sacrifice, and quiet strength as a veteran taught me resilience and integrity. To me, he was not only a soldier who served his country, but a lifelong source of pride and guidance”. ~Sheela Murthy.
Sheela Murthy and the MurthyNAYAK Foundation recently donated to The Baltimore Station. Over the past 36 years, The Baltimore Station has evolved from a small grassroots effort helping the homeless in South Baltimore into a comprehensive therapeutic residential and outpatient treatment program. Its services combine evidence-based creative therapies, physical activity, education, and life-skills training, helping men improve mental health, build healthy coping strategies, and sustain long-term recovery.
Veterans deserve our respect because they chose to serve something larger than themselves, often at great personal cost. They commit years of their lives to protecting national interests, frequently facing danger, long separations from family, and immense physical and emotional demands. Many place their lives on hold—careers, education, and personal milestones—so others can live in safety and stability.
The transition from military to civilian life can also be difficult. Veterans leave behind a highly structured environment and close-knit community, and their skills do not always translate easily into civilian employment. As a result, some experience unemployment, financial strain, or frustration navigating complex systems for healthcare, education, and benefits. Supporting veterans is not charity but a shared responsibility. With proper healthcare, mental health services, employment opportunities, and community support, veterans can successfully reintegrate and continue contributing meaningfully to society.
To our brave veterans: Thank you for your service, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to our country. Your courage and dedication protect our freedoms and inspire deep gratitude and respect from all of us.
